When do I need my Brake Fluid Changing? Volkswagen recommend you change for the first time after 36months your vehicles registration date (08 models onwards) and every 2 years thereafter. For pre 08 model years its every 2years after registration.

Why do I need my Brake Fluid changing? Brake fluid is responsible for transferring pressure from the brake pedal to the brake pad. The fluid used by Volkswagen is hydroscopic and it absorbs moisture over time, reducing the amount of pressure applied from the brake pedal to brake pad, which both increases braking distances and in extreme cases lead to brake failure.
